How to make your resume interesting

Recruiters are human and human error happens frequently. Their job is to filter resumes and find the right candidates. Just because you think you fit the job description doesn’t mean they will know. You have to know how to stand out and ensure that you become an MVP candidate to these recruiters that deal with volume over the lifetime of their careers.

Full name

In your resume, always make sure to add your first and last name in the resume header section so people know who you are. This is everybody’s most favorite part about their resume.

Professional email address

Always ensure that your email address is business professional no matter which email provider. Companies typically require professionalism from the start, otherwise they will just have an excuse not to hire you. Never give them any excuses.

Phone number

Just add your phone number in case they try to reach you right away. After sprucing up your resume and ensuring clearer upfront lingo, it may get recruiters excited to call you right away. It is merely a courtesy for convenience for recruiters where some may choose to save time instead of emailing back and forth.

Optional

Location

Recruiters tend to search geographically as well. If you live locally, it’d be a plus to add that in the header. People want to know who you are. You can add your city, state and/or zip code.

Professional title

If you are looking for a specific position from your past experience, then consider adding your title. It’ll show recruiters what you really are looking for. People love decisiveness also when it comes to placing people into roles in their personal companies.

Linkedin profile link:

You can impress visually recruiters who want to know who you are on more of a humanistic approach level. I would match up your Linkedin to your resume, and you should be good to go.

Benefits/awards

Instead of saying how great I am, have something exciting to show. Proof is in the pudding. People always state how they are a performer, but winning these incentives & vacations would add to your credibility.

Hopefully that was help for you to spruce your resume and make it more of an interesting read. Recruiters only spend several seconds skimming resumes. Make yours stand out by ensuring the intro has all your details laid out in front of them professionally. First impressions are everything they say. The resume technically is your first impression. Think of this as an advertisement highlighting your entire life and your job is to ensure victory for your next goal.
